|Topic:||Why are we interested in studying peptide folding? .|
|Details:|| On the one hand, understanding how a peptide folds is the first step towards understanding how a protein folds, which is a question of fundamental importance in protein engineering (redesign of proteins for biotechnological or farmaceutical purposes). On the other hand, knowing the 3D-structure ( fold ) of a peptide is of great help to understand how it will interact with other molecules, that is, how will function. This facilitates again the design of peptides with potential biotechnological or farmaceutical use. To determine the 3D-structure of a peptide experimentally is not an easy task. For this reason, computer simulations are being used as an alternative tool to predict the structure of newly designed peptides.
